Biography:

Jacob Hall, alias Henry Thomas, escaped from Ladies' Manor in Cecil County, Maryland, in December 1855 with his wife, Henrietta Hall, and child, Charles H. Hall.  His farmer and commissioner owner, Major William Hutchins, is described by author William Still as a "drunkard and hard master."1  Jacob Hall had always wanted to work for himself and so was determined to flee to Canada with his family.
