Biography:
Sam Davis successfully escaped Kent County, Maryland in 1856 at the age of thirty. Prior to fleeing, he was owned by James Hurst. Sam was said to have escaped with fellow slaves Henry Saunders, Abe Fineer, William Henry Thompson, and Thomas Parker. Though little has yet been recovered about his life after escape, Sam reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
