Sarah Simmons was born August 18, 1778 to William and Bethridge Simmons. Sarah Simmons married Jerningham Drury September 29, 1801 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. When her husband Jerningham died in 1826, he devised the property in his last will and testament to their three daughters Susanna, Mary, and Ann Maria Drury to be sold and equally divided among them. On April 5, 1838, Richard Drury (son of Jerningham and Sarah Drury) was appointed trustee to sell and convey the property by decree of the High Court of Chancery in the state of Maryland. The property was conveyed to Sarah Drury (widow of Jerningham Drury) for $1 by Richard Drury, May 3, 1839.

Sarah Drury continued to own slaves after the death of her husband. According to the 1830 census Mrs. Drury owned ten enslaved people.  In 1840, Drury owned 7 slaves, four males and three females.  In 1850 Sarah Drury owned nineteen slaves and in 1857 she purchased two men, Joe Owens and Mason Wilkinson, from the estate of Gusatavus Mans. By 1860, Mrs. Drury's enslaved population dwindled down to eight. Sarah Simmons Drury died November 12, 1865 and is buried at the Drury family cemetary located in Anne Arundel County. In her last will and testament dated February 1, 1861, Sarah Drury devised the family property unto her daughter, Ann Maria Drury.
