Biography:

Dr. Horatio (Horace) Edward Edelen was born June 12, 1804 to Joseph and Catherine Edelen of Prince Georges County. Edelen married Eleanor Catherine Tolson.. Horatio lived at his home called Mount Air in Piscataway, Prince George's County, MD. Dr. Edelen and his wife had at least 11 children together, Alfred, Edward, Horace Jr., Alice, Thomas, Francis, James, George, Eleanor, Rosalie, and Robley. According to the 1850 Federal Slave Census Edelen owned 14 slaves on his property. Edelen grew tobacco and grains on his 438-acre farm. Dr. Edelen lived in his home until the time of his death on January 26, 1882. Dr. Edelen is buried at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Piscataway.
