Escaped from Queen Anne's County, Maryland, 1831

Biography:

On September 30, 1831, John Reasons and his wife, Nancy, escaped from Thomas Hewitt's farm near Sudler’s Cross Roads. John was about thirty-seven or thirty-eight years old at the time. They escaped with another slave, William, who fled from Lewis Williamson's farm nearby. The slaveholders placed a runaway ad that ran from October 22 to December 10, 1831, in the Centreville Times and Public Advertiser. Cumulative reward: $100. The ad ran until December 10th of that year.1
