Escaped from near Centreville, Queen Anne's County, Maryland, 1828

Biography:

In 1820, Samuel was one of fifty-seven slaves working on John Wesley Bordley 's farmland near Centreville and Wye.1 Samuel escaped on May 24, 1828, a Saturday. Bordley placed a runaway advertisement in the Centreville Times on May 28th, and concluded his advertisement with the complaint that "The Friends of freedom should aid those whose servants abscond without provocation."2
