Maryland State Colonization Society Emigrant to Liberia from Queen

Biography:
Harriet Harper and her son John were freed by E.C. Harper of Queen's County.1 Harriet and John emigrated to Liberia, sailing from Baltimore on the brig Fortune on December 24, 1835. They arrived at the Maryland State Colonziation Society's settlement at Cape Palmas, Liberia on February 4, 1836. Later that year, they moved to Monrovia, Liberia, the American Colonization Society's colony, so that Harriet could care for her elderly father.2
