Slave in Queen Anne's County, Maryland

Biography:

    Negro Jupiter was an enslaved African American in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. As a slave, Jupiter was owned by John Emory, Register of Queen Anne's County, Maryland.1 Jupiter was arrested for "attempting to murder a free Negro Woman."2 On July 21, 1762, Jupiter escaped from jail at the same time as two others, Absalom Timm and William Timm.3 The sheriff, J. Nicholson, offered a reward of "Thirty Shillings" for the apprehension of Negro Jupiter.4 There is no mention of Negro Jupiter in other records, such as court papers and commission records.
